This week in our alphabet adventures brought us through the letter J!
You can find the original post explaining what this journey is by clicking the link below!
For this week we focused on: jewels and jellyfish
Logan is now 19 months old and these are all activities developmentally appropriate for his age and abilities. It is important to take into account the age/abilities of your kiddos and adjust as necessary.
Most of the crafts done along this adventure are what we call “process art”. That means it is all about the actual process of doing the project instead of the outcome.
At this age, children are not usually able to produce beautifully thought out projects solo. However, they can do many things within the projects themself solo! Painting, coloring, gluing, molding, ripping, dotting etc etc are all things they can do!
Children at this age learn through exploration!
During Alphabet Adventures, every week needs to include these things:
1. Craft
2. Food
3. Outing
4. Books/Activites
5. Sensory activity
I also decided that every week we are going to do a handprint craft that we will eventually turn into an “ABC” book!
Here is our tenth page!

Craft
For our crafts this week we made a jellyfish, jam jars, and created a jaguar mask!
Jellyfish
Started the week off strong with a jellyfish craft! I cut a paper plate in half and let him paint it with a couple colors. For more efficiency, Logan decided to implement a double paintbrush strategy.😂

Logan then helped me glue on the eyes and streamers on the back! It actually turned out pretty cute. It is on our fridge and he loves pointing to it when we walk by.
Out a reminder- it is so important to post children’s art/pictures in your home! Shows them you are proud of their work and helps them establish pride in themselves as well!

Jam Jar
I wanted to challenge Logan to a little bit more of a “structured” art activity. I drew a jar and instructed Logan to color inside the jar with colors that could represent fruit jam.
Look how well he did!

Jaguar Mask
Cut a paper plate into an animal shape and let him paint it yellow. Then I instructed Logan that the jaguar needed black spots and let him do the rest!

He immediately held it up and said “rawr!!!”

Food
The food of the week was jello! I can’t even remember the last time I had jello, I’m not a huge fan of it. Logan has never tried it though so I thought it would be an easy “j” food for him for this week!

Logan’s rating- 7/10 was SO surprised he liked this! I thought the texture was going to throw him off. Once he got past the texture he ate all of it and asked for more! However I did not give him more, he got a banana instead. 😉
Outing
Easy and free outing this week, but one that Logan is a big fan of! We went to play on the jungle gym at the park!

This was the first jungle gym that Logan told me, “no mama, Logan do!”
He pointed to the ground and wanted me to stay on the ground while he did it by himself 🥹 such a bittersweet moment.
Books/Activites

This jump house is worth its weight in gold! I put it on Logan’s Christmas list when he was only 10 months old and his grandma and grandpa bought it for him.
He was not a huge fan at first, but it has become an absolute necessity these days! James and I both agree it is on our top 10 list of must have for toddlers.
We blow this thing up every day, or at least five times a week when weather allows.
It is also been great to take out for birthday parties, holidays, and play dates!
Jello Jewel Rescue
Very messy, sticky and cold- but Logan loved it, so that’s all that matters I guess. After eating the jello the other day, he took one look at this and just tried to eat fist fulls of jello 😂

I have been thinking of a lot of different activities lately that are a bit out of Logan’s abilities or interests, but still want to share just in case your kiddo would enjoy!
A quick google search of these exact ideas will give you a good idea, I’m sure!
Other ideas for older kiddos

- Jelly bean collage
- Jacks (the game)
